Malana Waichin is situated at an altitude of 2,652 meters above sea level in the Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is surrounded by mountains on all sides and Malana is accessible only by foot. The people of Malana Waichin are known as Malanis and they have a distinct culture and traditions that are different from those of the nearby villages. They speak a language called Kanashi, which is different from the local dialects spoken in the region. The village is known for its unique system of governance and justice, which is based on a set of customs and traditions passed down over generations.
Waichin Valley is accessible by a drive unlike Malana and it is a short 1 hour walk from the ground and opens to huge meadows and gigantic snow-capped mountains. The trek is quite remote and offbeat. The trail is lined with Rhododendrons in the month of April and May and is a little steep hike. Overall, the Malana Waichin Trek is a beautiful trek that takes you through some of the most stunning landscapes in Himachal Pradesh. It is suitable for experienced trekkers who are comfortable with steep climbs and long walks.
Itinerary
Day - 1
Arrive in Kasol
After arriving in Kasol, it's a good idea to take some time to rest before embarking on your adventures. Once you're ready, head out to explore the scenic riverside and organic farm at TRO. From there, make your way to the markets of Kasol, where you'll discover an array of amazing hippie shopping opportunities and can indulge in some mouthwatering Israeli cuisine at the local cafes of Kasol.
Day - 2
The day commences early, at approximately 8:30 am, with a 45min drive up to Malana Gate. Here we embark on a 30 min walk and 1 hour drive to Waichin . We reach our destination after a short 1 hour walk which opens up to a huge meadow and gigantic snow-capped mountains all year round. We rest for the day, lit up the bonfire with some light music and enjoy the night away in our pahadi style Homestays.
Day - 3
Visit Malana and depart for Kasol
The day starts slow, with a cup of chai and a beautiful sunrise. We gorge on some warm parathas before embarking on to Magic Valley where we reach within 30 min of walk and spend sometime before leaving for Malana. The walk down to Malana village which is quite a descent, requires good strength and stamina but manageable. Once reaching Malana, we can spend sometime observing the architecture that looks more like a dreamy set up from medieval times. And having done the evening snacks, we head back to Kasol.
